New Texas laws give rural landowners greater liability protection when recreational guests are hunting, fishing or enjoying outdoor activities on their land. Judon Fambrough, attorney with the Real Estate Center at Texas AM University, says the new liability laws may encourage more nature tourism, a trend that is growing in popularity throughout the state. “A landowner may be more inclined to lease his or her hunting cabin to recreational visitors all year-round now that there is less worry about liability,” Fambrough says.
Simply being here, at the bottom of the driveway, just beyond the verge of the property line, feels like a trespass of some kind. This is not just private property. It is the property of the most private man in America, perhaps the last private person in America. The silence surrounding this place is not just any silence. It is the work of a lifetime. It is the work of renunciation and determination and expensive litigation. It is a silence of self-exile, cunning and contemplation. In its own powerful, invisible way, the silence is in itself an eloquent work of art. It is the Great Wall of Silence that J D Salinger has built around himself. It is not a passive silence; its a palpable, provocative silence. Its the kind of silence people make pilgrimages to witness, to challenge. Its a silence we both respect and resent, a lure and a reproof. Something draws us to it, makes us interrogate it, test it. Theres a line in Mao II, Don DeLillos novel about a Salinger-like reclusive writer who wonders: Why are so many so obsessed with my invisibility, my hiddenness, my absence?

First, home-made sausages. Youll need casings, sheeps intestines. Find a butcher or delicatessen that makes its own sausages and buy some casings. Theyll either be dried or salted. In both cases they need soaking for a few minutes. Then, call the children– grown-up children enjoy this too–and commandeer the bathroom. Attach one end of the casing to the bath tap and turn the water on (no, silly, the cold tap). If you do not have a bath, youll have to dismantle the shower nozzle: serves you right for not having a bath. As the casing fills it squirms round the bath as though alive and you can make it do a sort of lethargic snake dance by turning the water on and off. Soon the water finds a hole and someone gets an eyeful; more hilarity, and attempts to make the snake squirm so as to direct the leak at the oldest daughter, who has just done her hair–again. The object, apart from the fun, is to find any such holes and discard the lengths they are in. Previously you have bought some lean and fat pork, about two-thirds lean, one-third fat, and preferably from a large (manufacturers) pig. Some of the lean might be replaced with venison or hare or other strong red game. Grind the meat, add salt and herbs and a very little wine, lots of black pepper, and mix well. Now put the mixture through the grinder– manual or electric–a second time, with the grinding disc replaced by a sausage funnel. The casing is then threaded onto the funnel and filled. Oh dear. I forgot to tell you to tie a knot in the end of the casing. Never mind, it was a rather vulgar suit: suits shouldnt glisten. Let the casing slip off as it fills, now and then making individual sausages by tying cotton round at whatever lengths you want.

While the first early Jersey new potatoes grown under glass and polythene are already being lifted, the bulk of crop planting has been hampered by the weather according to Tim Ward, sales director of the Jersey Produce Marketing Organisation which will represent some 60% of exports this season. However we may have slightly lighter sendings because the amount of seed planted and the number of growers has fallen.

Debt is Slavery
As previously stated, many business owners currently borrow money to grow their business. But what about investing your borrowed dollars into other peoples businesses, and why on earth would you ever want to do such a thing? The simple answer is to increase your personal wealth, or turn some of your bad non tax-deductible debt into good tax-deductible debt.
Effective January 1, 2001, Treasurys Bureau of the Public Debt revised formats, titles, and column headings in the “Monthly Statement of the Public Debt of the United States,” Table I: Summary of Treasury securities Outstanding and Table II: Statutory Debt Limit. These changes should reduce confusion and bring the publication more in line with the publics use of terms. Treasurys Financial Management Service (FMS) compiles data in the “Treasury Bulletin” tables FD-2 and FD-6 from the “Monthly Statement of the Public Debt of the United States.” Effective June 2001, FMS revised procedures and categories in these tables to agree with the Bureau of the Public Debts publication changes. * Table FD-I summarizes the Federal debt by listing public debt and agency securities held by the public, including the Federal Reserve. It also includes debt held by Federal agencies, largely by the Social security and other Federal retirement trust funds. The net unamortized premium and discount also are listed by total Federal securities, securities held by Government accounts and securities held by the public. The difference between the outstanding face value of the Federal debt and the net unamortized premium and discount is classified as the accrual amount. (For greater detail on holdings of Federal securities by particular classes of investors, see the ownership tables, OFS-I and OFS-2.)

ITS HARD to believe that in a materialistic, fashion-driven country such as ours that anyone would say there is no choice on the store shelves. But, in fact, sisters Laurie Ivry and Julie Drummond complained of just that when they, out of the blue one day three years ago, decided to start a childrens clothing store. Red Wagon stores in Berkeley and Lafayette are the products of their frustration with the marketplace. Ivry and Drummond are mothers of preteen boys and girls, and they both grumbled there was no place for them to shop for their children, especially in the East Bay. Although Red Wagon serves both boys and girls, the retailers went a long way to solving a common conflict between mothers and daughters as well.
SEOUL, Dec. 20 Kyodo North Korea has asked the United States to provide childrens clothing in return for allowing the U.S. to continue joint recovery of remains of U.S. soldiers believed to have died during the 1950-1953 Korean War, a chief U.S. negotiator in talks with North Korea said Monday. Alan Liotta, deputy director of the U.S. Department of Defense Prisoner of War and Missing Persons Affairs, said the North Korean side made the demand at talks on remains recovery operations for next year in Berlin last week. Liotta said North Koreas linking humanitarian assistance to continuing recovery operations caused the Berlin talks to end without reaching any agreement on technical issues such as the timing and procedures for recovery work next year, but he hopes talks will resume in January.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing the creation of new regulations that expand the hunting of Canada geese in hopes of reducing the current resident population of 3.5 million by 1.2 million. As a result, the agency wants to allow states to undertake approved population control strategies, such as nest and egg destruction, trapping and culling programs and expanded hunting opportunities. “The service believes that the problems caused by resident Canada geese can be best addressed at the state level,” said agency director Steve Williams. “To that end, we are committed to providing state wildlife management agencies with as much flexibility as possible to address the issue.”
OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma voters constitutionally secured their right to hunt and fish and exempt disabled veterans from property taxes by overwhelmingly approving state questions in Tuesdays general election. Voters easily approved all four state questions on Tuesdays ballot by double-digit margins, based on results from nearly half of the states precincts. State Question 742, which adds a new section to the Oklahoma Constitution declaring that all Oklahomans have the right to “hunt, trap and fish” subject to reasonable regulation, was approved with 80 percent of the vote.

This week we met up with Sarah Burrow, manager of the new mezze-style restaurant Starters and Puds on Shakespeare Street in Newcastle City centre. As this is a family-run business, Sarah, 25, has been working hard to ensure everything was perfect in time for the launch. Though Sarah is a self confessed shopaholic, she has had no time to update her wardrobe for summer. We decided that this had to be rectified straightaway.
People often ask me, “how relevant is the catwalk to the clothes most people actually wear?” As the spring/summer 97 round of shows gets under way, with London officially starting tomorrow, Milan next, then Paris and New York, the answer is that without designer level fashion, high street fashion would have no impetus to move forward. The clothes you see here are all available at a shopping centre or street near you, at prices that most people can afford. Yet they all owe their origins to the catwalks. Occasionally, a dress or shirt will be shamelessly copied. But on the whole, the high street looks to the catwalk for inspiration - for a mood or a look, if not an exact pocket detail or neckline. This autumn, the influence of the catwalks on the high street is as pronounced as ever. Walk into Miss Selfridge and you will be hit by a capsule collection of brightly coloured, zig-zag-patterned knitwear, a reflection of the Italian designer Missonis resurgence as a label to die for. Missonis knits are hand-crafted, life investment pieces with, of course, price tags to match. But if you want the look without the quality or the third mortgage, a cropped cotton/viscose Missoni-look sweater for pounds 25 is an effective one-season buy, guaranteed to update last winters wardrobe. Likewise, Gucci, the Italian label that has recently been resurrected from being synonymous with Eighties status dressing to the ultimate in high fashion. There is no suggestion that anyone would mistake the Gucci “look” for the real thing. A pure cashmere coat by the esteemed label is manufactured and tailored with absolute precision. To compare it with a coat of roughly similar design by Warehouse would be like comparing a Lamborghini to a Vauxhall Cavalier. Both are perfectly functional cars, but there the similarity ends. You get what you pay for. Gucci is in a league of its own; and the cream, pure wool, fake-fur-trimmed coat you see here is worth every one of its pounds 160. Another strong look for this autumn comes from New York and Ralph Lauren. The designer, who opens a flagship store in London later this year, took his influence from a street in London: Savile Row. When Claudia Schiffer walked down the runway in a midnight blue velvet tailored suit with shirt and gold tie, scores of fashion editors imagined themselves in her place. Of course, Ralph Lauren does not hold a monopoly on velvet suits. And Next might just as easily taken their inspiration from the Row as well. While the designer version can be altered to look as though it was made for you, out of the most luxurious silk velvet, Nexts suit costs a fraction of the price, at under pounds 150. And of course, good old mail order stalwart Racing Green has come up with the perfect fitted shirt, and its as much of a classic as the Ralph Lauren de luxe original. Back in Milan, Prada has been setting the pace, along with Gucci, for the past few seasons. The key look is minimal styling with quirky Seventies house-beautiful prints. For the Prada aficionado, there is no point if the label is not hand-sewn with the revered Milanese logo. But for anyone who just happens to like the abstract print look, there are numerous hommages on the high street. The best comes from Jane Norman, a family-run business owned by two sisters. They pride themselves on their awareness of catwalk trends. For them, the catwalk is extremely important. They respond to supplying and satisfying public demand, giving increasingly trend aware women catwalk looks at high street prices. The shirt dress pictured here hits just the right note. The transition from catwalk to high street does not always happen within the same season. Some trends take a while to filter through. The tiger- print kaftans from Dolce e Gabbanas last collection are no longer available in their Sloane Street store, but they have only just made their mark on the shop floor at the French chain Kookai. And for evening, the cowl- necked tiger-print tunic is a good buy, and will make as much of a statement across a crowded bar as the designer version. If ever a composer fell victim to the autonomy of a single interpreter, it was Delius. Beechams magnificent recordings have dissuaded all but the most tenacious rivals, and it is high time we turned a willing ear to such sympathetic Delians as Ormandy, Slatkin and - if this CD is anything to go by - Gennadi Rozhdestvensky. Sir Charles Grovess Appalachia scores by dint of its physicality and expert pacing; again, the playing has its rough edges, but the climaxes have real weight. With Sir John Pritchards aptly fluid account of Summer Night on the River as makeweight, this stimulating CD serves as proof that, as far as Delius is concerned, there is life after Beecham! The Best In Recorded Music Chante Moore returns from a long hiatus to deliver a new recording, This Moment is Mine (MCA), and in the process demonstrates that she still has one of the prettiest voices in the music business. Throughout the 14-track set, she hints of personal feelings and experiences. Among the standout tunes is the melancholy “I Cry to Myself,” which has a jazzy, bluesy feel. Then there are the fervent, passionate ballad “In My Life,” the easy-flowing, romantic “Easy,” and the self-assured title song, “This Moment is Mine.” On each of the songs, Moore serenades listeners with easyflowing tempos and beautiful vocals. Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago showcase their many talents with Generation X Celebration (CGI), a fitting title for an energetic recording that features a choir with members whose ages range from 7 to 17. The gifted Whitman brings out the best in his youth with fine writing and eompositions, and with fresh, energetic arrangements. “My Father Knows,” which features LeCresia Campbell, is a beautiful ballad, while Deitrick and Damita Haddon deliver stirring vocals on the anthem-like “Stop The Tears.” Theres also the jubilant “Power,” and the jazzy “Play On” instrumental interlude, written and performed by Aaron Lindsay. A standout is the timeless “His Eye Is On The Sparrow,” with Keisha MeFarland on vocals. Whitman does an excellent job as lead vocalist, arranger, choir director and mentor to this great cadre of youthful talent.

Health: A report on health spending released by the Global Forum for Health Research finds that although global health research exploded from $30 billion to nearly $106 billion between 1990 and 2001, investments in lower- and middle-income countries remain inadequate. In 2001, 48% of health research was supported by the private for-profit sector, 44% by the public sector and 8% by foundations and other private not-for-profit groups. Globally, the US made up nearly half of all health research investments. Japan–the second-largest investor–spent 13% of the total, the UK constituted 7%, Germany 6% and France made up 5% of the total. The report also finds that the rise in diseases like SARS and HIV/AIDS has bridged some of the gap between high- and low-income countries, leading to a globalization of many health research efforts. Despite an industry upheaval and two gravely ill sons, this health-care entrepreneur discovered the prescription for perseverance. Sadly, looming business woes were the least of the Langdons worries that year. In the summer of 1996, at age three, their son Spencer–twin brother of Tyler–was diagnosed with leukemia, warranting three years of chemotherapy and approximately $1,000 worth of medication each month. Faced with circumstances that would obliterate the future goals of most, the Langdons didnt fold, but instead expanded ATPs services to override the Medicare massacre. Making ATP a onestop shop by adding outpatient rehab to its services was the ultimate goal, but first the Langdons had to move the company out of their Carrboro, North Carolina, home (situated in a bedroom, no less) and into a Hillsborough, North Carolina, office complex. To Ted, outpatient was ATPs salvation. I really started seeing the effects [of the Balanced Budget Act] in 1997, says Ted, 33. Medicare-based agencies were laying off staff, and the first people to go were with contract companies. If they didnt go Out of business or merge with other corporations, agencies drastically reduced their pay rates to contract companies, lowering the therapists wages. Some just didnt pay at all–like House Calls, a statewide home-health agency in North Carolina whose owner was nabbed for allegedly double-billing his way to Medicare/Medicaid fraud in 1997. I tried everything I could to retrieve [the $14,000 House Calls owed], but they were sued by everyone, says Ted. They had everything frozen, and I wa s so far down on the lawsuit list that, basically, I never got paid.

Preliminary duties placed on imports of Chinese wood bedroom furniture by the U.S. Department of Commerce may have more of an immediate impact on the lobbying efforts of the Furniture Retailers of America than on buyer behavior. The DOC imposed punitive tariffs on Chinese wood bedroom furniture effective July 17. According to the DOC, the tariffs affect approximately $1.2 billion of wood bedroom furniture that is manufactured in China for sale to the United States each year. Seven Chinese producers, representing approximately 40 percent of all shipments of U.S. Chinese wood bedroom furniture imports, will face duties that range from 4.9% percent to 24.34%. (See box.)
Three days after furniture-makers filed a petition seeking the imposition of antidumping duties of Chinese wood bedroom furniture, the CEO of Furniture Brands International, one of Americas largest furniture manufacturers, vowed to fight against it. Joe Dorn, of the Washington, DC, law firm King Spalding, represents the coalition and union. The day of the filing, Dorn said, The petition presents very compelling evidence of the serious injury suffered by the U.S. wood bedroom industry and its workers from a surge of unfairly priced imports from China. The petition states, Dumped imports were equal to 44 percent of the value of domestic production and 23 percent of the value of apparent domestic consumption in 2002. During January to June 2003, it says, dumped imports were equal to 67 percent of domestic production and 30 percent of apparent consumption. It also contends (The) petitioners net sales value decreased by 23 percent from 2000 to 2002, and by another 24 percent from the periods January to June 2002 (and) January to June 2003.

With discounters emphasizing fast-moving, good-margin automotive chemicals–having all but abandoned the hard parts business to auto parts chains–nine out of the 10 top brands in automotives were chemicals, and the other one, Fram filters (the only hard part in the group) was related to motor oil. AC Delco, batteries and tune-up equipment dropped off the retailers top 10 chart after a four-year run. And only 4% of consumers named AC Delco as a favorite brand. And the introduction of private label car batteries, such as Everstart at WalMart, Car Driver at Target and Penske (soon to be at Kmart) further dampens the vaunted AC Delco name in batteries. Retailer responses about increases in national brands vs. private labels indicate a shift in favor of private label, which was just fine with about one-half of consumers polled.

The Defence Logistics Organisation (DLO) is changing the way it equips its frontline forces following UK trials of priming equipment packs (PEPs). The pre-assembled packs provide troop supplies for the first 30 days of deployment, while details of further needs are worked out and a supply chain can be established. The DLO said that previously, units had to guess what they needed before being deployed. Also, Gov. George Pataki vetoed the prevailing wage notification bill that would have required employers to inform employees what the prevailing wage is on their jobs. A notice would be enclosed in workers first paychecks, but Pataki said the requirement would have been onerous for some employers. The sponsor of the measure, Westchester County Assm. Richard Brodsky, said Pataki was turning a blind eye to workers rights. The measure was unanimously approved by both houses.
JobJob is the name of a book in the Hebrew Bible and the name of the books main character. Many scholars consider the Book of Job to be one of the finest works of literature ever written. It focuses on the question of why the innocent suffer.Yahweh inflicts a number of terrible misfortunes on Job. He kills Jobs children and causes him to lose all his wealth, but Jobs belief in the goodness of Yahweh remains unshaken. This show of faith does not convince Satan, however, who says that physical pain and suffering would cause Job to abandon his belief. So Yahweh causes Job to be afflicted with painful boils all over his body, and still his faith remains firm.
Jobs faith is tested by both Yahweh (God) and Satan. This stained glass window shows Satan torturing job.

Data for June and July show the first signs of softening in the construction sector. According to seasonally adjusted data, the value of construction put in place in July was approximately at the same level as in June and thus 7.4% lower than in May. In the five months to May, the value of construction put in place was 38.7% higher than a year ago; in June and July the difference narrowed to 16.7%. Employment in the construction sector continued to rise. In 2006, the number of workers employed in the construction sector was 7.5% higher than in the previous year. In the first seven months of 2007 it surged by 11%. The hiring of foreign workers has also been on the increase (see SEM 7/2007: 11). The number of workers rose particularly in building completion and general construction, similarly as last year. In terms of worker status, sole proprietors and their employees recorded higher growth rates. Increasingly many firms face difficulties in finding labour. According to business trends in construction, 51% of construction firms reported “a shortage of skilled labour” as a limiting factor to production. If answers are weighted by the number of employees, this share is even higher (58%) - the highest in five years (since these data have been available). The shortage of skilled workers became a significant limiting factor in the second half of 2006 (see graph), coinciding with the boom in construction activity in that period.

Because they do not have dental insurance, she and her family have had to endure dental pain — especially the 7-year-old, who opens his mouth to demonstrate hes clearly in need of attention. The family was among dozens who showed up Wednesday to apply for free dental insurance offered to children under 18. By days end, 130 children had applied for the assistance.
Introduction Dental hygienists are the primary providers of preventive oral health services among the dental professionals affected by managed care. Recently, the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA) issued a position paper that supported managed dental care because of its potential to increase access to preventive oral health services.[4] However, anecdotal evidence from dental hygienists and empirical evidence from general dental studies suggest that the quality of dental hygiene care may be compromised under managed dental care plans.[5] The purpose of this study was to empirically examine whether patients insured by managed dental care plans received lower quality dental hygiene care than those who were not. Overview of managed care: Traditionally, dental and other types of health insurance in the United States were based on a fee-for-service model, whereby health-care providers were reimbursed for each service rendered. Because providers could increase their incomes by delivering more services that were generally subjected to little, or no, review by insurers, this situation often contributed to excessive health-care costs and an over-treatment of patients.[6]

Hamilton Construction Company has named Steve Light and John Correa senior project managers. Light will be in charge of all construction operations in the San Fernando Valley area and Correa all construction operations in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Prior to joining Hamilton Construction, Light was a project manager with Valley Construction Company for 23 years, primarily in the Warner Center complexes in Woodland Hills. Correa managed construction contracts at Point Mugu and Port Hueneme naval bases for Phillips National Company in Oxnard.
Civil engineering construction continued to increase in the third quarter. The value of construction put in place in this segment of construction was 26.2% higher than a year ago. A year-on-year decrease was recorded only in the construction of residential buildings (see table). In interpreting the value of construction put in place, we note that these figures exclude the activity of smaller firms (see note below table), whose main activity is estimated to be residential construction. According to seasonally adjusted data, activity increased relative to the previous quarter only in civil engineering, whereas activity in residential construction was at its lowest point in the last two and a half years. The growth of employment in the construction sector continued. In the nine months to September, the number of employees surged by 11.0%. As in 2006, the highest increases in employment were recorded in general construction and building completion. The share of firms that were unable to find workers declined in November after Octobers record-high value. According to business trends in construction, 47% of enterprises (employing 52% of workers) reported “shortages of skilled workers” as a limiting factor in November. This figure is smaller than in the previous two months, but still well above the average value of this indicator in the last five years (since data have been available).

Seitz also refers to research conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service which shows that dental and oral diseases that could have been prevented with proper dental care affect more than 50 percent of children in the U.S. The latter, he says, results in, among other things, missed school days–117,000 per 100,000 children, according to the Journal of Public Health. “Dental disease can keep a child from going to school and an adult away from work–just like other ailments have the potential to do,” said Seitz.

Nathe CN Prentice Hall Upper Saddle River, New Jersey 2001 316 pages; illustrated; indexed; softcover ISBN: 0-13-085157-4 $43.33 The chapters are divided into four units, with the first unit acting as an introduction to dental public health that includes the historical development of the dental hygiene profession (very interesting) and reminds readers that dental hygiene is the only health care profession that is truly focused on preventive health care as its foundation. There is information on dental care delivery in the United States and in other countries, and also a discussion of the legislative issues that affect dental hygiene practice around the world. Unit II addresses dental hygiene health programs by discussing target populations, educating and promoting oral health, developing lesson plans for various targeted groups, and oral health care program planning, which emphasizes the importance of careful assessments and effective planning. The next unit studies dental research and the importance of evaluating scientific literature and oral health products. It stresses that dental hygienists recommend products or treatment modalities based on documented evidence. It further states that dental hygienists must be able to understand advertising mechanisms and effectively critique published research, so that the public receives accurate information. It then offers the how-tos and where-tos of evaluating advertisements and scientific literature. The last unit addresses dental hygiene positions in public health programs and includes sample test questions for a dental public health board exam.

To avoid wasting advertising dollars, it is a good idea to develop a checklist for proofing all printed advertising. The doctor and staff can use this list to approve ads and avoid costly mistakes. If there is no one on staff who has mastered the talent of proofreading, consider using the services of a professional proofreader to make sure all your materials look professional. As you prepare your marketing campaign, keep the following in mind.

Q Energy conservation is one of our key initiatives this year. Do you have some ideas that can help? A Heres a list of my top recommendations to reduce energy costs. These operational (not capital expenditure) initiatives are fast, easy, cheap and efficient, and will reduce operating energy costs. For each utility, determine what you are measuring and divide it by the number of occupied rooms for the period of time reflected on your bill. For example, if you are developing the baseline for electricity, calculate total kilowatts used and divide that by the total rooms occupied for the same period of time. This will give you the baseline usage of electricity. Do the same for total utility cost per occupied room. Set goals and measure the results.
Save on your lodging costs If youre ignoring opportunities to reduce hotel costs, youre missing out on major savings. “People shop for the lowest airfare when the most costly item of a trip is hotel accommodations,” says Jens Jurgen, a travel expert and editor of Travel Companions, a bimonthly newsletter published in Amityville, New York. While hotel rates are more flexible than the average person realizes, it takes some advanced planning to find the best deal. Heed this hotel-haggling advice for price breaks: * Disconnect from a general reservation line. When its time to book, call the individual hotel to negotiate the lowest room rate and inquire about special deals. Only use the toll-free reservation number for general information.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers BOSTON CLEVELAND–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 28, 2003 Interior Concepts, based in Spring Lake, MI, has a long history of providing customers with unique designs that incorporate technical capabilities, ergonomics, and physical surroundings. The company has a 100 percent success rate in meeting its commitments, but increasing competition, rising material costs and changing customer needs prompted management to look for new ways to improve customer satisfaction. Implementing RuleStream has enabled Interior Concepts to speed design time and cut unnecessary costs out of the process.
By expanding to almost 7,500 square feet, we have increased our inventory of furniture and decor items, and our warehouse space, said Lina Quintero, Elements of Design owner and lead designer. We offer a significant trade discount to interior designers, who love to shop here for truly unique items, and having such a large showroom simplifies and accelerates the design timeline because appropriate materials are immediately accessible to our in-house design staff. In support of their environmentally friendly practices, the entrance to the new space is a set of reclaimed European double-doors. The hand-painted minute details on the nine-foot-tall doors are extraordinary; lending a unique charm and beauty to the showroom. The doors were recently rescued from a 100-year-old apartment in Paris, France, and brought to the United States. Quintero stated, Reclaimed materials and antiques are the ultimate green recycling opportunity because they bypass the need for manufacturing new materials. Just inside the doors, visitors are greeted with a creative display of sophisticated eco chic products and materials, including wall and floor coverings, paint, surface materials and upholstery fabric.

The Honeymooners is one of televisions best-remembered and most imitated comedies in the history of television. Although the series ran for only one year in prime time (during the 1955-1956 season on CBS) it has succeeded remarkably in syndication and on videocassette. Generations of viewers have identified with Jackie Gleasons portrayal of Ralph Kramden the aggravated bus driver from Brooklyn whose dreams of advancement were continually upended. The Honeymooners was among the last of the urban working-class comedies on 1950s television. As the nation experienced postwar prosperity so did the families on television. The Nelsons on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriett the Andersons on Father Knows Best and the Cleavers on Leave It to Beaver all lived in the tree-lined secure suburbs. By 1955 even the prototypical proletariat family the Goldbergs had moved out of the city. The Kramdens however were the exception. Ralph and his exasperated wife Alice (Audrey Meadows) were stuck in the urban chaos–a cold-water apartment above a noisy New York street without any creature comforts of Eisenhower conformity. Their main possessions were a plain dining table and a depression icebox. They shared their lower-class frustrations with the upstairs neighbors the Nortons. Slow-witted Ed (Art Carney) worked in the sewers while his wife Trixie (Joyce Randolph) commiserated with Alice about their common hardships. Unlike the suburban couples on television the Kramdens and the Nortons were childless just trying to keep themselves above water.
Planning can make honeymoon perfect The honeymoon is the symbolic start of life as a married couple, a chance to relax and enjoy each other after the stress of “the big day.”
Your honeymoon will be a memorable trip wherever you take it. Note that I said “memorable,” not “fantastic” or “wonderful.” A honeymoon, like any other trip, has the possibility of going terribly wrong. My advice? Dont screw it up because your spouse will never, ever forget it. For other tips on honeymoon travel, read on. Below youll find some information youll absolutely want to follow. The continuing ripple effects of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act were also deliberated, and the panel gave us their thoughts on what makes for a satisfying legal career. All in all, the group provided an insightful glimpse of what it is to be a lawyer in Utah today. Cars. Dir. John Lasseter. Released by Disney-Pixar. Featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, and Larry the Cable Guy. 116 min. Video release: Nov. 2006. This film is visually entrancing (the sequences set at the track are sufficiently stimulating, chaotic and noisy with furious angle cuts to engage your basic attention-deficient kid) and often slyly comic (because there are only cars in this world, tractors do the work of farm animals and one popular prank is tipping over tractors) and generously garnished with characters that can be personable (the wonderfully naive beat-up pick up voiced by Larry the Cable Guy is as endearing and appealing as any Disney character since Thumper). But it lectures, often heavy handedly, about a lost America, dated here to the mid-1950s, a world of caring neighbors, a slow down, small-town world of simple pleasures like a slow drive in the country, where love was expressed in batted eyes and stammering speech. Granted that 1950s is a confection of Hollywood and perhaps it is an exercise in pointless nostalgia to mourn something that never really existed, it works here. When Lightning McQueen, the showboat hot-shot race car (Owen Wilson), loses a big race (his daredevil antics on the track cost him the victory) and decides brashly to eschew his racing team to head alone to the season-ending showdown race for the Piston Cup, he gets lost on a stretch of back highway, the mythic Route 66, in the deserts somewhere on the way to California. He ends up in a lonesome town, Radiator Springs, itself a cross of intersections bypassed long ago by the interstate and now settling into dust. When Lightning ends up impounded in the town and then sentenced by an unforgiving old-timer judge (Paul Newman) to community service–he must repave the stretch of broken-down highway his race car has damaged–the young kid comes to understand, slowly, the simple values that his media-driven celebrity lifestyle and virtually impenetrable narcissism have never shown him: friendship, trust, honesty. Happily, the judge turns out to be himself a relic of past racing glory and with his help and his patient (although wonderfully gruff) instruction the kid learns a thing or two about handling cars. When Lightning returns to race, he does so richly educated in the importance of tradition, the value of modesty, and the sterling quality of friendship. I would not dream of spoiling the end of the film, but in the end we learn, as with all truly significant sports films, what happens in competition pales next to the significance of what happens off field. With Lightnings newfound sensitivity, the town finds its way to a renaissance that is as believable as it is heartwarming.
Why? a spat over a parking space.

A house in Hampstead that has hidden its north London origins behind a new Japanese personality, has just come on the market. Two adjoining houses in Fitzjohns Avenue were replanned and redesigned with specially selected materials. A stream runs along the full length of the properties (which are reached by means of a slatted bridge) and a sunken Japanese garden is filled with pebbles, ferns and bamboo. One of the houses only is for sale at an asking price of pounds 435,000 through Goldschmidt Howland (0171-435 4404). The main bedroom has a low-level custom-made Japanese platform bed and sliding shoji cupboards made from yellow rice paper. Housebuilders have just had their busiest month for two years and the prospects look good, according to the latest report for the House Builders Federation. New homes have increased their market share to almost 13 per cent from the 10 per cent at which they had been stuck since 1988. John Stewart, an independent housing economist and author of the report, says they are managing to fill a gap in the market because of sensitive prices and attractive marketing. “When I did some research with the Halifax we found a lack of confidence among intending homebuyers: they were not sure they would be able to sell their present homes. In buying a new home the hassle-free factor is very important,” he said. This bears out evidence from builders such as Barratt of a new breed of buyer at the top end of the market who, frustrated by the lack of good property available, is turning to developers for the first time. The success of Barratts award-winning development, Lakeside Grange, in Weybridge, Surrey, looks like being matched by its latest enterprise on the River Thames at Chiswick. At the recent opening of Royal Thames Crescent, all but three of the 19 five-bedroom houses and 13 two-bedroom apartments, with prices ranging up to pounds 600,000, have been sold.
Also included in the policy is coverage for equipment breakdown and earthquake and sprinkler leakage at full limits.

The Fundamentals Of Graphic Design 55a Chaple Road, Worthing, West Sussex, BN11 1BE, UK
Forgetting commercial imperatives when considering graphic design can lead to costly mistakes for business owners. Jan McPhedran has more. A common mistake is to approach the graphic design task from an artistic perspective, giving this precedence over business considerations. Business owners might feel that visual presence is one area in which to express their creativity and to some extent, they are right: a powerful graphic solution should deliver differentiation. Coming to the design table having earmarked a favourite style or ideas for imagery can be an excellent way to get the creative process underway, with one proviso: guiding thoughts need to be consistent with the business at hand, and more importantly, with its positioning within the marketplace. For example, a desire to emulate a boutique hotel brochure might be counter-productive if the product that needs selling is basic motel rooms.
ICONS OF GRAPHIC DESIGN by Steven Heller and Mirko Ilic The artists showcased in Icons of Graphic Design are a mix of the well-known-like Salvador DalĂ, Andy Warhol and Milton Glaser-and names you may never have heard of. Perhaps the most interesting-or surprising-element of the book lies in the recurrent themes that often date back farther than you would think. In fact, some of the older designs included here look as if they could have easily existed in a later time. Some are strikingly modern. There are 967 illustrations within this books pages-764 of them in color. All may not be artistic masterpieces, but the works displayed here constitute a cultural record of the times in which they were conceived, and certainly provide a unique look at the evolution of design.
